The Kvēpene short circuit leads through picturesque forests and rural landscapes in Raiskums Parish, allowing visitors to explore the surroundings of Kvēpene hill fort and the ancient Kvēpene caves. The route alternates between pine forests, hills and small ravines, and along the way there are views of the Gauja Ancient Valley and the peaceful landscapes of Vidzeme. The terrain varies – from forest paths to country roads, which at times lead deeper into the silence, away from human footsteps.
The circuit is suitable for both walkers and cyclists – it is easy to ride and walk, yet varied enough to retain a sense of adventure. The route is best enjoyed in autumn, when the forest glows in the colours of the leaves, or in spring and summer, when greenery surrounds you and a light breeze comes from the Gauja. In winter it is possible to go for a calm walk in the snowy forests or to cycle in winter conditions, if the weather permits.
